Dear Lord, I haven’t got long but can I ask for protection for Colin. I mean… I know he’s testing but I’m worried he’s about to get a kicking…

The Christian Blogosphere seems to be busy muttering about a new comedy starting on BBC2 this coming Monday called Rev. Its had the obvious comparisons with the Vicar of Dibley, and Father Ted, but from the sounds of it, this show has had some research behind it.

From Digital Spy:

Can you tell us a little bit about Rev.?
“It’s about a vicar and his wife who move from rural Suffolk to inner city Shoreditch in London, which is a bit of a shock for them. They’re a couple who are genuinely devoted to each other. Adam is a genuinely good man but he’s struggling with trying to be good, having a sex life but still trying to be a vicar. It’s funny and quite dark. Everyone assumes he’s got to be holier-than-thou but he’s a normal human with all the normal stresses and strains.”

There have been a few religious comedies in the past, like Father Ted and The Vicar of Dibley. Why do you think religion and comedy are a good mix?
“I think it’s eternally fascinating. Looking in from the outside, you wonder what they’re really like and how they can be that good. And I think Rev. goes into the nitty-gritty of it. They did so much research, James Wood, the writer, and Tom [Hollander, who plays Adam]. Some of the rudest bits are lifted absolutely from the horse’s mouth – from the vicars they spoke to and the vicars’ wives. The stuff that we made up wasn’t as rude as the real stories!”
